The Superior Livestock Auction, Inc. Internet Division

and Stampede Cattle Company Merge to Form Superior Stampede

Brush, Colo. -- AgPRonlineMay 1, 2003 -- Superior Livestock Auction, Inc. has announced the merger of their Internet division with Stampede Cattle Company, Visalia, California.  Superior and Stampede are the two premier Internet cattle marketing companies in the country.  The focus of the new company will be a continued dedication to creating competitive marketing tools for producers through the most innovative technology available. The new company will operate as "Superior Stampede".  A combined sales force of more than 375 marketing representatives will help cattlemen merchandize their livestock nationwide.

Bill Freeman, the developer of Stampede Cattle Co., has been named general manager of the new company.  Freeman has 30 years of industry experience and a solid belief in the desirability of Internet livestock marketing.

Buddy Jeffers, President of Superior Livestock Auction, Inc. said, "We are very pleased to be joining forces with Bill Freeman and Stampede Cattle Co. in this exciting new venture.  Bill has been in the forefront in the Internet marketing of cattle, and his reputation for honesty and integrity certainly speaks for itself.  Superior brought the latest technology to livestock marketing when we introduced satellite video auctions in 1987.  While Superior will continue to promote and provide satellite video auctions to cattle producers, Superior Stampede will expand on the tradition of utilizing the Internet and other new technologies to market livestock."

The new company will provide the cattle industry many more options for marketing livestock every day of the week.  Cattlemen will be able to choose whether they want to market cattle on the video auction, Internet auction, or through daily listings for private treaty.

Freeman added, "We are elated at the prospect of joining forces with the Internet division of Superior Livestock Auction.  The reputation and experience that Superior brings to the merger is unequaled in the industry.  While Superior's video auction broadcast RFD-TV will still be serving the vast majority of customers, this Internet union will enhance that effort for cattlemen from coast to coast."

Ø   "Stampede and Superior are a real good combination and the merger strengthens both organizations. It will lend more flexibility to people who want to sell on the video or the Internet," said John Lacey, a California rancher and former NCBA president. "As far as the Internet is concerned, Stampede offers a great modern marketing tool. You have the option of listing cattle on the Country Page where you negotiate a price, or you can take advantage of the live auction for a fast sale. I've used both formats and either way my cattle have been exposed to a large number of buyers."

Ø   The Superior Stampede merger is a good deal for both parties," said Scott Lindsay, vice president of procurement for Agri Beef Company of Boise, Idaho. "Superior will gain a strong Western presence and Stampede benefits from a national perspective. This merger also makes my job easier because it consolidates the Internet auction services of both companies. I'll now have access to more cattle from one resource."

Ø   According to David Jameson, head of cattle procurement for Gottsch Feeding Corporation in Hastings, Neb., business after the Superior Stampede merger will continue as usual. "I've been happy with Stampede's service and like doing business with their people. I appreciate the simple Internet bidding format and regularly use the Country Page for purchasing cattle. I've also taken advantage of the live auction as both a buyer and seller. With the merger, I can continue to use Stampede's service while benefiting from a larger selection of cattle."

Ø   Harris Ranch feedlot manager Bob Martin uses Stampede's live Internet auction to augment his cattle procurement needs. "I like the fact that the floor price is set before the sale begins. It's an honest format, creates a real market and provides a quick sale," said Martin. "For me, it's a great resource to find specific cattle and to see what the rest of the livestock world is doing. Stampede's model for Internet sales is the best in the industry."

Ø     "I'm surprised at how good Stampede's technology is; it runs like a true auction," said Gary Cobb, a sale barn operator from Guymon, Okla. "It expands the whole concept of marketing cattle online because it's lively, has an effective bidding format and puts cattle out in front of a large audience. For producers with large numbers of cattle, this auction is a great option because there are no transportation costs, it's faster and more convenient."

Ø      Ron Torrell, ranch advisor for Elko County, Nev., believes that Stampede's auction illustrates how livestock marketing has progressed with the advent of new technology. "An Internet auction such as Stampede's is the next step for the industry. It's user-friendly and enjoyable and you can participate without leaving the office. Ranchers will benefit from the low commission rates and their cattle can be auctioned without leaving the ranch."

Ø      Two of Stampede's customers Tim Kvamme of Voltaire, N.D., and Kevin Forgey of Casper, Wyo., like working with Stampede because they feel they have more control over the sale of their cattle and appreciate the honesty and integrity of their local field agent. "I run a small custom feedlot and know almost to the dollar what I'm going to get before my cattle leave the yard," said Kvamme. "Stampede has really good people and there's nothing to lose from a seller's standpoint. You can set your terms while exposing yourself to buyers all over the country. I'd recommend it to anyone." Forgey added, "I like the fact that you can wait until you receive the price you want rather than taking the price that's available on a specific day. The technology gives your cattle more visibility and I have more control over factors such as shrink. My buyers have also been pleased."
